SHORT FILM: Oscar Winners 2012

With the Oscars just around the corner, it’s time to have a quick look back at last years Academy Award winning shorts.

The Fantastic Fly Books of Mr Morris Lessmore won the hearts of the Academy board and well deservedly took the gong. Inspired partly by Hurricane Katrina, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore shows just what power books hold. Using a mix of techniques, William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg present a hybrid style of animation that will no doubt capture your heart and imagination too:

Taking the award for best live action short was The Shore. Written and directed by Irish filmmaker Terry George, The Shore follows the story of Joe and Paddy, whose friendship is broken due to troubles in Northern Ireland, when they’re reunited twenty-five years later. Finally, the winner of best documentary short is Saving Face. It follows the journey taken by two women, both victims of vicious attacks that left them scarred for life, who attempt to bring their assailants to justice whilst trying to rebuild their own lives.
