Yesterday it was announced that Warner Bros and J.K. Rowling are working together to turn ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’ into a film. Of course, the Harry Potter fandom exploded into excitement but there were still plenty of neighsayers! So in response to these negative people, I give you 5 reasons why this is going to be great!
1. It’s an expansion to the Harry Potter universe
At the moment, all we know about the Harry Potter universe is what’s been revealed in the books or in Rowling interviews. As mush as Pottermore is there to give us an insight into the wizarding world, it only tells us about what went on during Harry’s school days. By going back in time through the universe, we’ll find much more about the history of magic that set up for the life of Harry Potter.
2. New Characters
Having the film set in the 1920s, while Newt Scamander writes his best selling Hogwarts text book, it opens the doors wide open in terms of characters. People that may have only been mentioned briefly in the books or in the films, can be turned into fully fledged characters and help link the past to the generation that we already know and love.
3. Old Characters
Rowling has already said that there will be characters that we know, as well as ones we don’t. Set 70 years before the events of Harry’s Hogwarts adventures, there are plenty of characters that won’t be appearing in this film. However, there is one wonderful, old wizard who would have been around. Professor Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. Born in 1881, Dumbledore would have been in his late 30s, early 40s in the 1920s and probably kept up with the height of fashion – Gatsby Dumbledore anyone? He’s bound to pop up somewhere along the line!
4. New Creatures
No matter how much attention you paid in Care of Magical Creatures, Defence Against the Dark Arts or Potions, there’s still plenty of creatures you’ve never come across – unless your name’s Hermione Granger, then you probably know them all! This film will give us a chance to see what other weird and wonderful characters lurk in the caves and valleys of the wizarding world.
5. It’s a new freaking Harry Potter film!
Why is anyone annoyed by this?! We thought Deathly Hallows Part 2 was the end of it all and now we’ve been proved wrong! It’s an excuse to dress up as a wizard again – start digging those hats and robe outs!
