Tonight is the night that the ghouls, goblins and ghosty’s roam the streets while small children knock on doors wanting sweets. Many people will be mad enough to watch horror films that scare the bejeezus out of them, while many others – myself included! – will be going for something light and fluffy. If you want to avoid the gory, the gruesome and the nightmare inducing, have a look at this list, it will make you feel better!
1. The Muppets (2011)
Happy songs, bright colours, general bounciness! Nothing is scary about this film…unless you find talking puppets scary – which, come to think of it, is quite scary really! I mean, a talking frog that bursts into song? Surely people have nightmares about that sort of thing? Sorry…erm…lets move on.
2. Back To The Future (1985)
Take a trip back in time with Marty McFly where he accidentally stops his own birth. That actually sounds more like a horror film too – travel back in time and accidentally kill yourself…hmm…let’s try this again…
3. Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2005)
A joyful romp on the seven seas, running from cursed pirates who’ll kill everyone they meet until they find the right person to break the curse, then kill them too! Dammit, that sounds scarier than most horror films out there! This list isn’t going so well is it?
4. Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)
There we go, this is more like it! A young girl is cursed by a witch and her only hope for help is from an arrogant wizard who happens to live in a walking house, powered by a demon. Witches? Curses? Walking house? Demons? This isn’t as nice as it seems, sounds like that Baba Yaga legend to me! Plus look at the size of that house, there could be all sorts of evil things lurking behind those doors! Moving swiftly on…
5. Sleeping Beauty (1959)
A lovely Disney film about a beautiful princess who…gets cursed by a witch and effectively put into a coma. Then when the prince comes to rescue her the witch turns into a giant dragon. No wonder this film gave me nightmares as a child!
This wasn’t the greatest non scary film list was it? Or maybe it was just the Halloween spirit getting to me. Any case, I’m going to close my wardrobe doors, hide any needles, time machines, puppets and cursed coins and hide under a duvet, I think! Happy Halloween!
