In 2009, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was the unexpected smash hit that set stomachs around the world rumbling at the sight of beautifully animated grub. This time the food has evolved into amazing food-animal hybrids, food-imals as it were. After the FLDSMDFR (Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator) malfunctions and creates giant food, the residents of Swallow Falls are shipped off to San Francisco while their island is cleaned up. Meanwhile, the now supposedly destroyed FLDSMDFR malfunctions once again, creating Foodimals. Flint and the gang must return to the island to save the world from these vicious edible creatures.
Shrimpanzees, Fla-mangos, Taco-diles (supreme), Melon-phants – these are the things that make this film great. The food puns are never ending and all of them are delivered with perfect timing and wit. There are still plenty of great one-liners, mostly coming from Earl Deveraux and Tim Lockwood which will make you laugh when there’s an eventual gap in the food puns. “I’m not a barista! I’m a police-sta!” And of course, the Neil Patrick Harris voiced STEVE! the monkey returns with him simple one word hilarity.
The majority of the cast returns, besides Mr T as police officer Earl. Instead Terry Crews takes his place but is near enough indistinguishable from the original – I didn’t notice any change until Mr T’s name didn’t appear in the credits! The voicing is just as great as the original and the new comers Will Forte and Kristen Schall are great additions.
This is a great film for adults and children alike – just make sure you eat beforehand! Even just writing this review is making me hungry! Also, if you don’t find Berry the cutest thing ever, you are not longer my friend – he’s ADORABLE!
