List: 8 sequels no one ever asked for

It’s pretty safe to say that when there’s an announcement of “Sequel to your  favourite film goes into production!”, there’s almost always a collective groan which gets us questioning whether Hollywood really has run out of ideas.

Here are 8 of the worst offenders:

  1. Mary Poppins 2

Yes, you read it right. That classic 1964 film is getting a sequel starring Emily Blunt set 20 years after the original film. Why on earth the execs at Disney thought this was a good idea, I have no idea, but it looks like we’re going to get it whether we like it or not.

2. Mean Girls 2

The original film written by Tina Fey and starring Lindsey Lohan became a massive success the world over, meaning that a second on was put into the works. Bear in mind that this sequel is currently on Netflix and has half a star rating – and this is the service which has Burlesque at 4 stars!

3. Avatar 2 and every other Avatar film thereafter

Yet to be released, all these sequels have everyone saying “Enough already!”. While Avatar was a huge success and still stands as the highest grossing film of all time, no one thought it was the greatest film of all time – except James Cameron who appears to love it so much he seems to want to release a film every year from now until eternity…

4. The Hangover Part 3

The first in this series was clever and funny, the next not so much and then there’s the third. There’s only so many times the same group of guys can get into a stupid situation before it gets boring.

5. Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights

No Patrick Swayze, no Dirty Dancing – simple as!

6. Any “straight to video/DVD” Disney film

There’s a reason these films didn’t make it to the cinema, and are often found in the bargain bins of supermarkets – no-one ever wanted them! The majority of Disney animations are great standalone films which don’t need a sequel made on half the budget to drag them down.

7. American Psycho 2

Did you know there’s an American Psycho 2? Don’t worry, I don’t think many other people have heard of it to be honest. The legendary Christian Bale thriller isn’t exactly calling out for a sequel, nor was it an obvious choice but here we are!

8. Independence Day: Resurgence

The original Independence Day was an inventive idea, with a great cast. The sequel is lacking in Will Smith and is most likely going to be just like every other alien invasion movie out there. If it’s not set on Independence Day they might as well scrap it now!

Do you know a sequel you wish didn’t exist? Let me know!
